What are skin conditions?

Skin conditions refer to any disorder, disease, or condition affecting the skin. Treatment depends on the type of skin concern you have. 

Skin conditions are quite common with around 25% of Americans having a skin condition today. 

What are some common skin conditions?

While there are around 3,000 different skin conditions, most cases are within a small group. Common skin conditions include the following: 

Eczema

Eczema is a skin condition causing patches of rough, red, dry, and blistered skin. It’s most common in children, but about 16.5 million adults have eczema today. 

Hives

Hives are red bumps or welts on your skin. Most hives develop due to allergic reactions, for example, food allergies like peanuts or shellfish or skin allergies like latex. 

Shingles

Shingles are a resurfacing of the chicken pox virus in adulthood, often after age 50. It causes pain and typically a red rash that surfaces within days of the pain. The rash often includes fluid-filled blisters and can be itchy.

Poison ivy

Poison ivy is a skin rash that’s an allergic reaction to urushiol, an oily resin found in certain plants. It causes severe itching and often blisters.

Cellulitis

Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection. It generally occurs on one side of the body, causing irritated skin, blisters, spots, tenderness, warmth, and other skin issues. Cellulitis can spread to other parts of the body and may become life-threatening. Redicare Mobile Health Service treats simple cases of cellulitis, but complicated cases require hospitalization. 

Nail infections 

Nail infections can occur due to fungal, bacterial, or viral organisms. Common types of nail infections include toenail fungus and nail bed infections. Nail infections cause the surrounding skin to turn red and swell.

What kind of treatment do I need for a skin condition?

After your provider examines your skin during your telehealth or in-home appointment, they recommend a treatment plan to heal your skin quickly. 

Telehealth visit

Prior to your telehealth visit, you’ll get an email or text message prompting you to complete the patient registration process. Then, you’ll receive a link, which you click 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. You’ll receive any necessary care virtually. 

Home visit

Before your home visit, you’ll complete your patient registration forms. Then, on the day of your visit, you’ll receive a two-hour window of time in which your provider will arrive at your location of preference. 

You may need a prescription, which they transmit electronically to your selected pharmacy right away. Or, you may need a topical treatment and bandaging.
